"Triage" lyric excerpt:
Some say love's a meditation on everything we are
Good bad and indifferent self-righteous and bizarre
It's right there in the crosshairs, our every last mistake
The sinners we've made holy, the saints we've burned at the stake
If love is revelation and love we thus receive
It all comes down to knowing less than most of us alone believe
If you're asking me what love is, here's what I might say
You can find it out there anywhere on any given day
It's an endless stream consciousness obtained in drips and drabs
And a chance to do the right thing when there's no one keeping tabs
If love is what we make it as you reap so you sow
The yang and yin the where and when the first and last to come and go
Then love is all creation as love is manifest
It's love when we're all given life and love when we're all laid to rest

This new collection of songs was written during the great political, climate and economic upheaval that has marked recent years. The noise of that chaos encouraged the songwriter to go inside for solace and answers. The result is this series of songs that contend with these themes but approach them from a place of healing love and solution.

As producer Dan Knobler said, “Not a moment of this album is unconsidered. Time and time again the question was asked: does each word, each note, every instrument and sonic choice serve its song? Is each song in service of the spirit of universal love? If not, it had to go. The result is a piece of work both Rodney and I take immense pride in.”

Triage is Rodney’s 18th studio album, his third on his own imprint, RC1 Records, and is his first with Thirty Tigers. Rodney has won numerous awards, including two GRAMMYs and six Americana Music Association Awards as well as their Lifetime Achievement for Songwriter award. This last accolade resonates deeply with a man who has stacked up fifteen number one hits including 6 of his own, and dozens of others for an impressively diverse array of artists including Emmylou Harris, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Keith Urban, Bob Seger, Etta James, and Grateful Dead.

In keeping with the song, the video for the project's title cut offers an unsparing look at the state of love in a world that challenges it at every turn.

“I’m grateful for Haroula Rose's compassionate direction and Sebastian Pinzon Silva’s clear-eyed camera work,” Rodney said, “and the video accomplished what I hoped it would - I came out looking like a guy who knows pretty much what time it is in the world. No small feat, that.” (video below)

    About

Hi. I'm a member of the country club. Country Music is what I love.

Are you somewhere that you don't belong? Without a jukebox and a country song? Maybe you came here seeking a nice, bright, sunny, resort-y kind of place. The kind of place festooned with ferns. Maybe this was even your LAST resort. We hope not. But don't worry, we still have the best of intentions with this blog - you might not find a lot of tennis but we still intend to raise a racket now and then. (In other words --- although you will sometimes find press releases here we net ORIGINAL content too).
